Joost Zei

Team Leader, International Recruiter

Joost is one of our recruiters at Job Squad and is currently based in Madrid. Originally from Amsterdam in the Netherlands, he moved to Spain five years ago for his very first experience working abroad as a recruiter. He has now been working in recruitment for around six years and joined Job Squad four months ago.

What Joost enjoys most about being a recruiter is the human side of the job. For him, it is not just about finding someone a position, but about helping people take a big step in their lives. He loves being there from A to Z, guiding candidates through the process of moving abroad, starting a new job, and settling into a new country. Being both a professional guide and a supportive friend is what motivates him every day.

His own journey abroad plays a big role in how he works today. Joost initially moved abroad out of curiosity, driven by a desire to experience different cultures and explore Europe. When he first arrived in Madrid, the experience was not easy. He had little support and learned firsthand how overwhelming moving abroad can feel when you are on your own. That experience shaped him deeply and is one of the reasons he is so passionate about his work now. He knows how important good guidance is and makes sure his candidates feel informed, prepared, and supported.

For Joost, the best thing about moving to a new place is simple: new people and new cultures. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with friends and being outdoors, especially in warm countries where life happens outside. He describes himself as very social, with a big heart, and that warmth quickly comes through when you speak with him. A fun fact about Joost is that he loves diving into random topics, learning everything about them, and then explaining them with contagious enthusiasm.

His advice for anyone moving abroad is something he truly believes in: invest in relationships early. A strong support network matters more than the perfect job or apartment, and feeling connected can make all the difference when starting a new chapter abroad.
